ABC Weather Dallas: Meet Chief Meteorologist Dallas Raines

As a Texas native, I'm thrilled to be in my home state forecasting some of the world's most extreme weather - and what better place to do it than Dallas? For over three decades, I've been dedicated to bringing you the latest updates on the ever-changing Southland weather. My name is Dallas Raines, and I'm honored to serve as Chief Meteorologist for ABC7 since July 1984.

Growing up in Lafayette, IN, Fort Wayne, IN, and Kansas City, I developed a passion for meteorology at a young age. In fact, by the time I was five years old, I was already fascinated with the weather and its impact on our daily lives. This curiosity led me to pursue a degree in Meteorology from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.

After college, I began my broadcasting career in various markets, including Lafayette, IN, Fort Wayne, IN, and Kansas City. But it wasn't until I joined ABC7 that I truly found my calling. As Chief Meteorologist, I'm responsible for providing weekday weather reports and keeping you up-to-date with live weather conditions using our state-of-the-art Mega Doppler 7000 HD radar.

But what drives me to be a meteorologist? Simply put, it's the thrill of chasing extreme weather events - tornadoes, ice storms, snowstorms, and more. As an avid storm chaser, I've had the privilege of researching and witnessing firsthand some of the most dramatic weather phenomena in the country.

As a certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) by the American Meteorological Society, I take pride in my ability to communicate complex weather information in a clear and concise manner. When I'm not forecasting the weather, you can find me exploring the Dallas community - like during the Feast of Our Lady Guadalupe, where over 50,000 people gather downtown.
